Hello, and welcome to yet another chess improvement weblog.
I've been following the progress of the Knights Errant with interest. Now that a few of the more prolific early members have cut back their posting, I've decided that it is time for me to stop lurking and start writing. I don't have anything revolutionary to say, but I was encouraged by reading about the progress of other beginners; perhaps I can do the same for someone else.
I live and work in San Francisco as a computer programmer. With respect to chess, I'm an adult beginner in my late 30s. I started playing and training in October 2006; I finally settled on Convekta's Chess Tactics for Beginners, and just finished it off. I made one big mistake -- I still don't have a rating, online or OTB, so I don't have any data on how much my chess has improved.
Because I'm a programmer, I'm interested in chess software. I'll be posting reviews of the software I've tried. As none of the software out there is exactly right for me, I'm thinking about writing my own training software. I'll post a feature list for comment if I get that far.
See you around!
